If
I could change two things from my school they would be some of the rules like
the tardy rule, I would also change the mindset that is present at the campus
in this moment.
I
would change the rule that states than if you are tardy five times or more you
receive an “F” in citizenship grade, which you can only clear once a semester. I
think that rule should not exist because it affects our grade, making us not
eligible for certain programs like CSF which require grades higher than a “C”
in both scholarship and citizenship. By being eligible for CSF you obtain the privilege
to graduate in black while the rest of the students graduate in red or white. I
have zero period which means I need to come to class one hour earlier at seven
o’clock. Unfortunately for me, my dad goes into work at seven o’ clock which
results in me sometimes waiting for my dad to get ready for work which to me
being late. Most of the time I am late I am late for less than three minutes
but I still suffer the same consequences. At the end of the semester I have being
tardy twelve times but I can only clear five so, if I clear five of the times I
have being late I am left with seven times being late resulting in an “F” for
my citizenship grade. Probably teachers think that a tardy rule is necessary since
there is students that are late for twenty or thirty minutes, but it is not
always the student’s fault. In my situation I have to wait for my dad.
I
would also change the mentality in the school campus, in the past months our
school has been involved in several controversial issues that have created a
negative attitude from the students toward the school. I have spoken to many
students and they think that the school is not worthy of their education and
they claim that they should move schools. This mindset creates an undesirable learning
environment. Although I am not affected by this environment because the IB
program students always show a positive, I feel that the rest of the students
in the school need help realizing that the controversy should not affect their
education.
I
hope that I could change those two things from my school to have a better high
school life for me and the other students of Castle Park High School.
