19. Should school attendance be mandatory? In your answer, be sure to explore what the function of education is, and what our nation would look like if the masses were less educated.

Attendance should be mandatory because every day teachers have a new lesson to be taught, if we allow students to miss days of lesson because there is no consequences, they would miss knowledge needed to keep moving forward in the class. Then, when the student asks the teacher if he could explain the lesson again he is affecting everyone else because they are ready to learn the new lesson yet, they are prevented from acquiring new knowledge.
There is exceptions, since sometimes there is more important things, or just family problems that prevent student from being able to attend school. Missing school on a regular basis should not be allowed under any circumstances. Every day I miss school I have to deal with twice the workload since have to catch up with the class, although, the schedule at my school is more forgiving because I do not have the same classes every day and we have an extra day to catch up, it is still hard to finish the work because I did not have the explanation given by the teacher.
Some people may claim that it is a decision and that every student is responsible for showing to school if they want to since if they hurt their grade, but the main goal of a teacher and of the school is to educate everyone equally, even if they do not want to, and by not having stronger consequences to skipping school the system is failing since it is not setting everyone up to attend school to offer them the opportunity to learn.
Attending school should be mandatory in every country in the world not only the United States. As seen in other countries that do not support education fully, like Mexico were I used to attend school and discovered that there was many people my age that did not attend school at all and there was no consequences for their parents, the crime rates are higher. The only way to have a developed country is through education.
